Shannon Zura

SHANNON ZURA

Shannon Zura is a professional lighting, sound, and scenic designer who has also worked as Associate Professor and Chair of Theatre at the University of Southern Maine and Production Manager for PORTopera.

As a lighting, sound, and scenic designer, Shannon values the opportunity to collaborate with artists to create a cohesive world that helps breathe life into a script.  Every design is a new interpretive challenge and she strives to create work that is both imaginative and accessible.  Regardless of the budget, venue, or play, she aims to produce a thoughtful and polished design that enhances the world so meticulously chronicled by the playwright and director.

Some of Shannon's favorite designs include the sound design for Portland Stage Company's The 39 Steps, the scenic design for InterAct Theatre Company's Black Pearl Sings, the lighting design for InterAct Theatre Company's Kiss of the Spiderwoman, and the scenic and lighting designs for Opera House Arts' Brilliant Traces.

Shannon was featured in Stage Directions magazine's Saluting Women in Theater issue (2005). Shannon appeared on the cover with lighting designer Dawn Chiang and producer Daryl Roth. Please click on the image below to see the full article and read the interview with Shannon.
